Nickel Plating

Nickel plating usually use in chrome plating as the base plating before the metal is plated by chrome metal. This procedure is done because some of metal have bad result if directly plate with chromium, even some metal won't plated directly with chrome, but will good plate after plating first with nickel. Beside as the base plating nickel plating often use in canning to make more resistance to corrode and safe to keep food for long time stored.

Nickel plating also aimed to make more thicker plate on a certain metal because if directly plated with thick chromium plating will make the plating layer cracked. The plate of nickel is use principally as a bright nickel coating underneath a much thinner chromium electroplate to provide a highly lustrous and corrosion protective finish for articles of steel, brass, zinc die castings, chemically metalized plastics, and coating on aluminum and magnesium alloys.

The first nickel plating do on a truly commercial basis used double salt baths, including both sulfate and chloride, and was probably the first to recognize the importance of impurities in the plating bath. For do this nickel plating they use case soluble anode which contained silicon, iron, and carbon.
